Grounding & settling

As anxiety is an upward movement in the body ("my heart was in my throat"), we can alleviate mild anxiety by settling into seven main foundations in the body: the feet, pelvic floor, respiratory diaphragm, collar bone area, base of skull and jaw, eye sockets and top of head. These foundations allow our emotional life and our mental life to settle and rest.

The foundations are associated with security, with having been held securely as babies - some of us were and some of us weren't. But even if we weren't, we can now as adults cultivate that sense of being held securely, having these foundations to rest in.
